CBD Punjab Introduces Smart Crosswalks to Improve Urban Safety and Public Mobility
LAHORE: Central Business District Punjab has launched an advanced smart pedestrian crossing system on CBD Route 47, reinforcing its commitment to upgrading Lahore’s urban infrastructure and ensuring pedestrian safety through intelligent city planning.
Two smart crosswalks have been installed using international standard technology, carefully selected through extensive research by the CBD technical team. Each crossing features automated pedestrian signals, a user activated push button, and durable brick embedded LED lights that provide clear visibility, especially during low light hours.
The system also includes digital screens that display public awareness messages, Islamic quotes, sayings of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and essential traffic safety guidance for both pedestrians and drivers. These screens also provide real time temperature and clock updates, enhancing both function and aesthetics.
The embedded lighting is engineered for long term durability, fully waterproof and capable of withstanding up to 50 tons of weight. Pedestrians can activate a red traffic signal with the push of a button, creating a safe 30 second window to cross. A 60 second interval between activations helps maintain steady traffic flow.
To further strengthen road safety, CBD Punjab has installed speed calming features such as digital speed meters, speed bumps, and clearly visible speed limit signage along the corridor.
Commenting on the initiative, Imran Amin, Chief Executive Officer of CBD Punjab, said, “We are proud to lead the way in bringing smart mobility solutions to Lahore. These crosswalks represent our commitment to building a safer, more modern and people friendly city.”
