Islamabad unveils anti smog plan in talks with Asian Development Bank

Islamabad, Re News Pakistan
The Chairman of the Capital Development Authority and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, met a senior Asian Development Bank delegation on Monday to outline a comprehensive plan aimed at reducing smog and improving air quality across the capital.

The discussions focused on expanding eco friendly transport, adopting international emissions standards and strengthening green financing to support the city’s long term environmental strategy. The ADB team, led by Senior Financial Sector Economist Andrew McCartney and members of the bank’s urban development group, reviewed existing measures and assessed new proposals designed to curb rising pollution levels.

Randhawa said that tackling smog and lowering carbon emissions remained central priorities for the administration. He noted that Islamabad had already aligned its Electric Vehicle policy with the guidelines of the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority, and that the city was working to widen the use of electric mobility. Charging stations are being installed across the capital to support the transition.

He highlighted the deployment of one hundred and sixty electric feeder buses financed by the CDA, describing the initiative as a major step that had already reduced emissions from the public transport network. Carbon emission testing for vehicles is under way and new air quality monitoring stations are being set up to deliver accurate real time AQI data.

Randhawa added that Islamabad would soon introduce a modern solid waste management system and launch a feasibility study for a scientific landfill site to replace current disposal practices that contribute to pollution.
