Karachi | ReNews Pakistan BankIslami Pakistan Limited has announced the sale of residential and commercial properties located in different cities through a public auction. According to an advertisement issued by the bank, the properties will be sold in their existing condition and on the basis of the available legal documentation. Interested buyers have been directed to submit sealed bids, along with the required documents and prescribed earnest money, to the designated bank office by 5:00 pm on August 10, 2026. Offers received after the deadline will not be considered. The properties offered for auction include two sites in Multan. One covers an area of 23 kanals, while the other measures 8 kanals and 7 marlas. A third property is located in Faisalabad and has a reported area of 76 kanals and 9 marlas. According to the advertisement, prospective bidders may inspect the properties during office hours after obtaining prior permission from the relevant bank officials. The successful bidder will be required to pay the outstanding amount and other applicable charges within the stipulated period. All government taxes, registration fees, transfer charges and other related expenses will be borne by the buyer. BankIslami has also reserved the right to accept or reject any offer without assigning a reason. Karachi | ReNews Pakistan The Sindh Master Plan Authority (SMPA) has launched an advanced Geographic Information System (GIS) platform aimed at modernising urban planning, strengthening land management and laying the foundation for smart city development across Sindh. The initiative is expected to improve planning accuracy, enhance institutional coordination and provide government agencies with a comprehensive digital framework for managing urban growth. The new GIS technology was formally inaugurated by Sindh Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah during his visit to the authority's headquarters, where officials presented a live demonstration of the system's capabilities and its potential applications in urban development and land administration. According to officials, the GIS platform will play a central role in the preparation of future master plans and smart city strategies by integrating satellite imagery, Google-based mapping technology and digital spatial data. The system will enable planners to analyse land use patterns, monitor urban expansion, identify government-owned plots and support evidence based decision making for infrastructure development and public services. Authorities said the technology will also improve the identification and documentation of land managed by various provincial institutions, helping reduce discrepancies in land records while supporting more efficient planning and regulatory oversight. By providing accurate geospatial information, the platform is expected to assist policymakers in addressing urban challenges such as population growth, infrastructure demands, environmental management and sustainable land utilisation. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said the adoption of modern digital technologies reflects the provincial government's commitment to building a more transparent, efficient and accountable planning system. He noted that advanced GIS tools would strengthen institutional monitoring, improve coordination among public agencies and ultimately enhance the quality of services delivered to citizens. The minister emphasised that technology driven governance has become essential for managing rapidly expanding urban centres and ensuring that future development is based on reliable data and long-term planning objectives. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Dr Waseem Shamshad, senior officials of the Sindh Master Plan Authority, representatives of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) and other government officers involved in urban planning and land administration. Urban planning experts view GIS technology as a critical component of modern city management because it enables authorities to visualise geographic data, assess development trends and make informed policy decisions. Karachi | ReNews Pakistan The Sindh government has accelerated efforts to modernise Karachi's industrial infrastructure by launching a PKR 2 billion development package for the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE), while confirming that a broader PKR 9.5 billion rehabilitation programme has been approved for major industrial zones across the city. The initiative is aimed at addressing decades-old infrastructure deficiencies, improving the business environment, and strengthening Karachi's position as Pakistan's leading industrial and export hub. Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, while laying the foundation stone of the SITE uplift project, said the rehabilitation of industrial estates was a key priority because industrial growth directly contributes to exports, employment and overall economic development. According to the project details, the package includes reconstruction of major roads and corridors, rehabilitation of drainage and sewerage networks, improvement of green belts and the upgrading of essential municipal infrastructure within the industrial estate. The SITE package forms part of a much larger citywide industrial rehabilitation programme under which approximately PKR 9.5 billion has been allocated for Karachi's principal industrial zones. Unlike previous development models, the provincial government has transferred funds directly to trade and industrial associations, enabling them to identify priority projects, appoint contractors and supervise implementation according to the specific needs of their respective industrial areas. Officials say the new mechanism is intended to reduce bureaucratic delays, improve transparency and ensure faster project execution. Earlier oversight meetings reviewing the programme confirmed allocations for several industrial estates, including SITE, Landhi Industrial Area (LITE), Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), North Karachi Industrial Area, Federal B Area Industrial Zone, Bin Qasim Industrial Park and SITE Super Highway Industrial Area. Work orders for a number of schemes have already been issued, while procurement for the remaining projects is nearing completion. Mayor Wahab said the rehabilitation programme reflects a shift in development policy by empowering industrial stakeholders to manage projects themselves rather than relying solely on conventional government procedures. He noted that industries are better positioned to identify the most urgent infrastructure requirements, allowing development work to be carried out according to actual ground realities. During the ceremony, the mayor also announced progress on Karachi's wastewater management plans, stating that the TP-1 Sewage Treatment Plant will soon become operational with an initial treatment capacity of 35 million gallons per day (MGD). An additional 65 MGD is expected to be added by December, increasing new treatment capacity to 100 MGD, a development expected to significantly improve wastewater management for industrial and commercial areas. Business leaders have welcomed the initiative, saying Karachi's industrial zones have long suffered from deteriorating roads, inadequate drainage, flooding during monsoon seasons and ageing municipal infrastructure. They believe timely completion of these projects could lower logistics costs, improve industrial productivity, encourage fresh domestic and foreign investment, and enhance Pakistan's export competitiveness.
